I needed some room in my freezer, so I had to thaw some meat. The space I needed ended up being the size of some beef stew meat I'd frozen. I defrosted that really having no idea what I'd do with it. The meat was already cut into one inch cubes and was very, very lean. That limited my options some what. I had bought the meat originally because it was marked down to $1.50 for a quick sale and I figured I could figure out what I'd use it in later, probably chili. As it turned out, I didn't have all the stuff I needed for making chili. I decided I'd give making a stew a chance. I hadn't made one in ages, since they really aren't my thing. I didn't technically have everything I needed for a stew, either. Not my usual stew recipe, anyway, which calls for stock.
LifeTouch managed to screw up the photos again (remember last time?). No idea how we're going to work that out yet, but I've emailed them yet again with proof they screwed up (yet again) and asking for the correctly done prints (yet again). At least I (yet again) ordered the CD with the original images on it and one of the images on the CD is the original shot before they messed it up. I wish I could stop throwing money away on these idiots, but if I want the actual school photos (which for some reason, I find that I do) this is the only option. They've got a total monopoly on Cobb County and no other companies are even allowed to negotiate with the county as a whole OR individual schools. These guys are such morons and I hate giving them money every few months.
That photo is outstanding. Sage did everything we asked her to do and her side of it was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, that is not the image that came home. This is:
For refrence, you can see HERE what I actually ordered (pose 3). Based on her pose in the first photo above and the choices on that order sheet, it's pretty obvious they photographed for pose 1 (traditional portrait, head-and-shoulders), but cropped for pose 3 (landscape, head-and-shoulders leaning slightly forward arms resting (but out of shot) on a prop). The photographer screwed up. It's pretty clear that I had it written down on the order form correctly, since they auto-cropped it for the pose I actually chose. No human eye ever checked what went out the door, because any level of QC at all would have seen that image was wrong. They don't even sell a pose with so extreme a close up that the top of the subject's head is cut off.
I wish that this time and the last time I wrote about them screwing up so obviously were the only times, but they're the only times I've written about. Every single year, spring and fall, since first grade they have done something equally obvious to screw up. They have absolutely NO quality checking at any level -- from the photographers who take the images, to the software they use to auto-edit and auto-crop the photos, to the printers that print them -- their process is constantly screwed up somewhere and no one ever checks anything. I'm constantly having to mail them back things (at my own expense, I might add) so that they can send me the photos I should have gotten to begin with.
I'm most upset because this is the 7th time in a row they've screwed up this badly and this was the best photo she's ever taken. She did everything right and they still couldn't manage to not mess it up. She looks great and luckily I have the CD with the original image, but I still want the damn prints I paid for and I have a feeling they're just going to tell me no this time (see previous statement re: this being the seventh time in a row I've had to contact them about screwed up prints).
This weekend I took Sage to the eye doctor to get new glasses. Hers are pretty scratched up and much as I loathe America's Best, they were having an even better sale than normal on their famous two pair + free eye exam offer, so off we went.
I have to admit the gentleman who did the exam was fantastic. The best at it I've ever seen. He was great with Sage, was incredibly knowledgeable, answered all my (and Sage's!) questions (even the ones we didn't know to ask), gave us a couple of great tips I'd never heard before, and was generally pleasant, even fun, to be around. The rest of the staff was as surly, unreliable and uninterested in being there as usual. However, the eye doctor was so good he even made up for the near cat-fight we were witness to between two of the employees. Professionalism, people, it's not just for your grandparents.
Anyway, the point of this post is this... During the eye exam, the doctor asked Sage several questions. The following conversation ensued:
Doc: Do you do a lot of reading?
Sage: I have to read 20 minutes every day.
Doc: That's very good. Make sure to take breaks every 15 or 20 minutes, if you're reading longer.
Me: That's not really a problem. I can barely get her to do the 20 minutes.
Doc to Sage: You know should really read more. It's good for you and it's fun!
Sage: O...kay....
Doc: Do you use the computer a lot?
Sage: The computer?
Doc: Play games, do you use the computer or play video games?
Sage: Ummm...
Me: She does a little bit, but not a lot.
Doc: How much?
Me: About 2 hours...
*Doc starts to look a little surprised that I'd call 2 hours a little bit... oh these parents these days*
... a week.
Doc with his shocked face on: 2 hours a week?
Me: Probably less.
Sage: I just got a DSi!
Me: She did, but she doesn't play it a lot, really. We prefer for her to play with her friends or play outside. She really only plays it when there's nothing else to do. Like in the car sometimes.
Sage: I watch a lot of tv, though!
Me: That's true. She does watch an hour or so of tv in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Doc shocked in the opposite direction (2 hours of tv a day IS a lot for a kid :P): O...kay... uh... be sure to sit at least 6 feet away from the tv.
I get the feeling he doesn't see a lot of kids like Sage.
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a problem exclusive of Rant and/or Rumor Phones, etc. I have been charged for this... read more
